Snake River Sturgeon
In about 2015 my good friends Sigurd, Jim, Tom, and I launched at Hellers bar, near Clarkston & Asotin Washington, on the snake river to fish for sturgeon and smallmouth bass. Jim drove us up to the mouth of the salmon river and dropped me off to fish for sturgeon and the other three went up stream to fish for bass. Several hours later I noticed them returning and at the same time I hooked into a huge sturgeon. It jumped at the confluence of the snake and the salmon rivers. When a jet tour boat saw the fish jump they pulled off into an Eddie and the 50+ occupants were in awh as I fought the fish. When the sturgeon jumped I estimated it be 8 to 8 1/2 feet long. As it was taking out line Sigurd and I jumped into the boat. We were going to follow the fish. With hundreds of feet of line screaming off the real we begin to pull away from the bank. As soon as the boat begin to move toward the fish pulling us, the reel froze up and the line snapped. Below is a picture of Sigurd and I fighting the fish minutes before the unfortunate outcome. What a great memory with great friends! With love and respect Harry
